Twenty three species of hummingbird have been recorded in the USA.

- Buff-bellied Hummingbird
- Cinnamon Hummingbird
- Violet-crowned Hummingbird
- Blue-throated Hummingbird
- Magnificent Hummingbird
- Plain-capped Starthroat
- Bahama Woodstar
- Lucifer Hummingbird
- Ruby-throated Hummingbird
- Black-chinned Hummingbird
- Anna’s Hummingbird
- Costa’s Hummingbird
- Calliope Hummingbird
Bumblebee Hummingbird- Broad-tailed Hummingbird
- Rufous Hummingbird
- Allen’s Hummingbird
Of these 23, seven are rare vagrants, occurring anywhere from once ever to once annually in the United States. These are Green Violet-ear, Green-breasted Mango, Xantus’s Hummingbird, Cinnamon Hummingbird, Plain-capped Starthroat, Bahama Woodstar and Bumblebee Hummingbird.
Buff-bellied Hummingbird can only be found in southern Texas, whilst Broad-billed, White-eared, Berylline, Violet-crowned, Blue-throated, Magnificent and Lucifer make their homes chiefly in southeast Arizona.
The remaining eight species are the most widespread, Ruby-throated in the east and Black-chinned, Anna’s, Costa’s, Calliope, Broad-tailed, Rufous and Allen’s in the west.
